Workshops

As part of the Thaddeus Cain project, writer-director Dan Allum led a series of creative-writing and drama workshops with Footprints Theatre and the East Anglian Storytellers.

Working with a group of primary and secondary students, participants used the core story and characters from Thaddeus Cain to create and perform their own murder-mystery drama.

The project culminated in a live performance at the East Anglian Storytelling Festival 2024, held at the Food Museum in Stowmarket. The piece, devised entirely by the young people, re-imagined Cain’s world through their own voices and experiences.

A few weeks later the workshops were repeated at Wood Ley Primary School, where pupils developed a new version of the story and performed it to classmates and staff.

What the Participants Said

“I loved the murder-scene bit — it was so dramatic.”
“Now I want to make a drama show of my own.”
“My grin’s not getting off my face!”

Teachers reported increased confidence, teamwork, and enthusiasm for creative writing and performance.
Children spoke about feeling proud, excited, and inspired to keep telling stories.
